That's what I'll be doing with the 92 ranger.

It will have a stock 2.3L but cosmetically it will like like one.

Once I get it up and running I'll be installing an explorer 8.8 with 3.73's and trac loc. It will get a shackle flip out back and cut springs in the front for a 2/3 drop.

The doors will be replaced with the ones from the black bronco that I saved. Batman will be getting the good drivers door for his truck.

I'll then slap on a cheap paint job resembling the SCCA trucks. Yellow/White and black stripe.

Looks like it'll be a fun project, and I like the color choice.

Here are a bunch of pictures. Since Helter won't raise the picture size it takes too long to post all the thumbnails.

Here is a link to my Photo bucket page that has all the pictures.

Well, it 'looks' like it'll be an interesting project.... from what I can see in TEXT. Personally, anything over the pixel limit that Helter has set makes the thread look like sh*t. 640x480 is plenty large. I'm trying to figure out why people insist on 84023948023984x439420398402394823 pixel pictures. It's not going to look any different. If you need to point out a specific close-up detail on whatever it is, take a @#$%^&*~! close-up shot of it! But, to each their own. There is a way to copy and paste over the thumbnail view from most photo hosting sites, but I can't remember where I saw the details :| :-( Sorry.... I'm in one of those moods today  :| :smt006

Got the 2.3L running. Put a battery in it. Squirted fuel down the intake. Jumpered the starter solenoid.

Purred for a few seconds.

I was able to get a better look at the engine and sure as shat it's a dual plug engine.

89-98(?) 2.3s should be dual plug. I don't remember seeing they changed back to single-plug before they went to the DURATECs....

This is something similar that I was going to do with my '95 Nissan before the ex decided she couldn't live a lie anymore or whatever  I'm considering finding another '87.5-'96 Nissan D21 and doing it up. I'd consider opting for a '97-up KA24DE engine, though.... just because you can get so much more out of 16-valve engines over 12-valve ones

OK I got some news. Batman and I made some headway on this thing.

Friday night we ripped what was left of the 97 apart to get to the engine.

Got the engine and trans pulled from the frame. Just need to pull the motor mounts off and get a few Misc other bits off before it goes for scrap.

Now Saturday morning we went wrecker hopping looking for parts and we scored big time.

I picked up a wire harness from an 89-90 ranger with a 2.3L and the ECU, so the motor swap should be nearly a plug and play. May have to splice a few wires.

Also got a pair of headlights and buckets for a 1st gen conversion.

Found an intake tube from a 97 ranger.

All the stuff I got ran me $25 total.

Batman got a bunch of stuff too that was put on the table with my stuff and they basically threw them in for free.

All in all it was a good day.

True that but I knew that 89 ranger was at Tin man's as that was the truck I got the rad out of. Just contemplating getting the harness out of it. Looks like I did after all.

Don't be sad about it Rat they are like that here too. I was surprised as shyt when the guy told me $20 for the harness.

but you were doubting on wanting to make a wrecker run

rat, the one wrecker for the lights and bezels wanted too much from the start but dropped their price drastically for some odd reason. Some wreckers here tell you one price but they drop their price the next minute, while others charge 3x more for the same thing.

I change my mind quickly some times.

Them buggers wanted $25 for a light/bezel. I was surprized as hell when the same guy that quoted me the $25/ea price looked at the stuff we had and said $5. I wasn't about to give him more than $20. In the end I didn't have too. Cash always talks. The place I got the harness from is good for that. Usually can knock them down in price if you got cash in hand.

Started to pull the old underhood harness out and make way for the 2.3L Harness to go in.

Pulled the clutch out only to find that it's almost down to the rivets so I'll need a new clutch. Just going to get a new disc to put in.

Clean out the mouse nest and put it back together.

After looking at pictures I realize that the DIS module is missing from the wire harness so I'll need to find one of those.

One other thing I have to do is splice the CAS and the couple other plugs needed to hook up the various sensors.
